Tiny little used bookshop. Well-organised selection of mostly modern titles and a few classics. Has a $1 bargain bin. The owner is really nice & knowledgeable about books. Both my dad and I found a book that each would like to read.

A book shopping experience like no other!

BookHouse Hawaii brings back the nostalgia of old-school bookstores with a locally owned aesthetic. Located inside Gather Cowork in Hawaii Kai, BookHouse has its own nook, with quite a wide variety of books. Sam, the owner, is an avid reader and is impressively knowledgeable about almost any genre. My favorite part of the shopping experience is how she wraps each order with twine and a bookmark. It was so charming that I didn’t unwrap my books for days and left them on display on my coffee table. She procures all the inventory herself and supplies cozy blankets for if you want to hang out and read, further adding to the totally personalized experience that you don’t find anywhere these days.

Best of all, BookHouse Hawaii supports local authors and sells my book, Running in Slippers, which has sold out several times with this book loving, supportive community.

I can’t wait to see this business expand even more!

A cozy atmosphere with plenty of interesting books & genres to choose from. I had a hard time trying not to get everything I picked up! The owner is also really sweet and great at giving recommendations if you're not sure what you want.

BookHouse Hawaii is a hidden gem in the heart of Hawaii Kai. The owner, Sammie has curated an assortment of thrifted books in all genres so there is something for everyone! This cute nook is perfect for the bookworm or for anyone looking to find gifts for the book lover in their lives. The best part about BookHouse Hawaii is Sammie! Her knowledge of books and ability to make amazing recommendations has reignited my passion for reading! The fact that she also only puts books of a certain rating on the shelves, ensures that any book you select has been reviewed and is some of the best out there. I'm still working through my last large purchase of books, but can't wait to go back for more! If you aren't able to make it during normal open hours, Sammie also opens up on certain weekends and throws some amazing book themed events. I highly recommend BookHouse Hawaii to everyone!

I love the selection for books because it’s always rotating. My daughter loves this store because she knows exactly where the children’s books are. Even though it’s a tiny shop, there’s only 1 (sometimes a few) copies of each book, so the selection is way larger than it seems. The owner is very knowledgeable and if you tell her what type of boom you’re seeking she will give you an awesome recommendation, always.
