My son was diagnosed with stage 3 Osteosarcoma aka bone cancer. His tumor was8-9cm cm wrapped around his sternum. Very rare and serious. His oncologist explained osteosarcoma and started chemo that week. Dr said 3 months of chemo then surgery to remove. We didn't know know a thoracic surgeon. His oncologist suggested and chose Dr Dao M Nguyen. DrNguyen was incredible. He explained what he would do and worked with the oncologist. Few days later my son had the surgery. Dr Nguyen was and is angel sent from above. He put us all at ease. No promises made but would do best he could. About 9 hours later he found us. He found tumor on sternum. He literally removed the mass on sternum, menubrium, 3 ribs on right and left and clavicle. In the OR Dr Nguyen made him a full chest prothesis. He made no promises regarding recurrence but my son survived this surgery. Dr Nguyen spent all time we needed answering questions and going into detail regarding the surgery. My son had another surgery by Dr Nguyen to adjust prothesis.
I VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR NGUYEN. HE IS COMPETENT, KNOWLEDGEABLE, CARING, SKILLED, COMPASSIONATE, EXPLAINS TO YOU SO YOU UNDERSTAND WITH NO TIME LIMits and has great bedside manor. I Believe DR NGUYEN has been blessed with a gift to care for sick people. If needed make appointment to see him if you need. Thanking the UM team, his oncologist who still sees him.

Dr. Nguyen is a rock star. He handled with precision and compassion the daunting prospect of removing the upper lobe of my left lung due to the cancerous tumors therein. His renowned skill with robotic surgery resolved my problem cleanly and efficiently. My recovery is highly manageable and problem free with a minimum of discomfort and a minimum of pain meds prescribed to effectively address any discomfort. He and the entire Sylvester U of Miami staff have made negotiating this whole process quick, smoothly run and highly caring. I am now cancer free and enjoying a fruitful, active life.

Dr. Nguyen was my brother's doctor in 2017. He had multiple surgeries in one to combat tumors from cancer. He had part of his lung removed and some ribs removed simultaneously. After surgery, there was NO pain medication ready for him. My poor brother was left to suffer for hours before any type of pain medication was offered. Although I stood by his side waiting, calling the nurse (who was horrible) and called Dr. Nguyen multiple times. Several hours later, Dr. Nguyen finally showed up to look at my brother, and about an hour later there was finally pain medication brought up. That lasted for about six hours. I went home only to return the next day to find out they ran out of meds again in the middle of the night. So my brother was again left suffering four quite some time. My brother died last May and this still haunts me. I should have left this review sooner. No one should be left without pain medications after any type of major surgery (especially the torso area).

Desde el 2008 estoy padeciendo de cancer de pulmon. Hace menos de un mes tuve mi tercera cirugia y agradezco a Dios por haberme puesto en manos del Dr Nguyen. Puedo asegurarles que,ademas de ser un excelente cirujano toracico y muy profesional, es un gran ser humano y se preocupa mucho por sus pacientes, a quienes escucha y les explica cualquier duda sobre esta dificil enfermedad. Quiero aprovechar para comentar que, ademas del Dr Nguyen, he sido paciente de la Dra Baxter, de quien tengo la misma opinion, asi como de Josie y del resto del staff del Dr Nguyen. Pienso igual del Sylvester y de la UM. Agradezco a todos por su excelencia y humanismo. Quisiera que alguien tradujera este comentario al ingles para que llegue mi mayor agradecimiento a todos ellos.
